A Bit on the Founder
Family History
Joe's grandfather opened the first H&R Block offices in Georgia and Florida as well as owning an accounting firm in Savannah, GA. His mother changed the accounting world by heading the team that brought e-filing and computer tax compliance to both Canada and the U.S. with over 40 years experience before retiring. His father was a pioneer in franchise law and setup in charge of all franchises in both Canada and the U.S. for H&R Block with over 35 years experience before becoming the Executive Vice President of Jackson Hewitt.
Joe's History
Joe went to the University of Georgia as a Music Major out of high school in 1987. While at college, Joe worked in the district quality control center editing hand written tax returns from 17 high volume Atlanta offices.
Joe then decided to enlist in the US Navy as a navigator when the country went to war with Iraq in 1991. He quickly rose in the ranks and was awarded his own 100 ft vessel, USS DLR-3, as a Craftmaster. He served 6+ years before getting out having earned several awards, including a Navy Achievement Medal for saving the department $50,000 in refitting the DLR-3.
After becoming a civilian, Joe completed his BBA Degree in Accounting at Georgia State University. While going to school, he worked as a Franchise Manager for 7 H&R Block franchise offices, including opening a new test office with 1100 clients in the first year.
Once Joe completed his degree, he worked for some very large accounting firms in Atlanta. The firms include BDO Seidman, LLP, Bennett Thrasher, PC and Habif Arogeti and Wynn. While working for these large firms, he received valuable tax and accounting experience with large, multi-state corporations and partnerships to go along with his individual tax skills. After relocating to Savannah, he worked with a large local firm solidifying his small business income, payroll and property tax compliance. These vast experiences have trained Joe to be a problem solver ready to attack any issue you may encounter.
